Record the Money
Last updated
Product reviews leak money quietly: a fee nobody chased, a reimbursement that never came, costs you forgot to count. Tuskl keeps two kinds of money for each Product, what was agreed and what actually arrived, and tells you when the second is missing.
The Fee You Agreed
The Fee is what a brand pays you for the review. Set it when you add the Product, or later in the Product’s Fee & Payment section.
- If the Product’s Contact has a usual Fee, it fills in for you.
- Pick a Fee Type: Standard Fee for a paid review, or Original Video Sale when you’re selling the video itself.
- Leave it blank if there’s no fee. That’s a perfectly good answer, and Tuskl won’t nag you about it.
When a Product has a Fee, its Workflow gets a Fee Collected Step, so getting paid becomes part of finishing the review.
Good to know: Self Purchased Products never have a Fee, not even $0, because there’s no brand paying you.
When You Get Paid
When the money lands, click Paid on the Product (in the Planner, or on its page).
- Pick the day it arrived. It defaults to today.
- Check the Amount Received. It starts as the agreed Fee; change it if a different amount landed, for example after a processing fee.
- Click Mark Paid.
Tuskl keeps both numbers. The Product shows the agreed Fee, and also Fee Collected when the amount you received was different.
Once recorded, the paid date and amount stay put. If you got one wrong, Undo the Step and mark it Paid again.
Money You’re Owed Back
If you bought the product and the brand reimburses you (TikTok Shop’s Refundable Samples, for example), set its Acquisition Type to Reimbursement and enter the Purchase Cost: what you paid, and what you expect back.
On a Workflow with a Reimbursement Received Step, such as TikTok Shop, you’ll get a Paid button for the refund too, and it works the same way as the Fee.
Good to know: the standard Amazon Influencer Workflow has no reimbursement Step on purpose. Amazon’s rules don’t allow content made in exchange for payment, so Tuskl never sets you up to track one there.
Reimbursements are paying you back, not paying you, so Tuskl never counts them as income.
When Money Is Late
Two weeks after a Product is Approved, if the Fee or reimbursement still hasn’t been marked paid, Tuskl flags it as Money Outstanding: a dollar sign on the Product, and a line in your Wednesday Waiting on Others email, ready for a polite follow-up.
What It Cost You
Log what running the business costs you, so your reports show real profit and not just income.
- Open Expenses in the side menu (or click Log an Expense on your dashboard).
- Click Add Expense, then fill in a Description (a short name, like “SD Card”), the Amount, the Date and a Category. Pick Other… to type your own category.
- Optionally link it to a Product, attach a Receipt (an image or PDF, up to 10 MB), and add Notes.
- Click Add Expense.
Costs that belong to one Product, like return shipping or props, can also be added from that Product’s Expenses tab.
